KEY POINTS:
The Police rate less well than Pete Doherty in a list of the world's greenest bands.
Despite frontman Sting's campaigns to save the rainforest and his environmental activism, The Police have been given a poor rating thanks to the carbon footprint left by his band's reunion tour.
NME music magazine commissioned carbonfootprint.com to come up with the rating for tours, from zero - "being as carbon neutral as Bob Geldof's bathwater", to 10 - "as good for the earth as an oil spill".
Radiohead's carbon footprint was the best of all five bands listed, giving them a rating of just two.
Frontman Thom Yorke recently pledged to reduce Radiohead's footprint after it was shown that 50,000 trees were needed to offset CO2 from the group's Hail To The Thief tour. Pete Doherty achieved a rating of four, the same as indie three-piece The Cribs, because he tends to play in several small venues.
