KEY POINTS:
You know a charity must be doing well, if they can throw their toys out of the cot and hissy fit demand which media outlet they want covering their shindig and which cannot. Whatever happened to the Telethon days when Peter Sinclair and Judy Bailey sing-songed "thank-you-very-much-for-your-kind-donation," and meant it?
These days, the charity game is a whole different kettle of hand-outs. Favourites are played out in sponsorship deals and media alliances that arguably reflect little about the beneficiaries. Do the kiddies really care which journo is allowed to come to fundraisers and which isn't? Rosie H would never have behaved so malevolently at the charity queen helm?
KidsCan, the charity that uses the patronage of Ali Williams and Doug Howlett to raise funds for kids in impoverished areas to supply food, shoes and raincoats, threw a swanky bash at the Town Hall last night. Well, swanky if a lingerie show is your cup of tea. Spy was told a media exclusive had been given. In other words, we were persona non grata. Not very charitable, don't ya think?
Nevertheless, welcome or not, we had our spies there and we can tell you Sally Ridge and Miriama Smith stole the show looking most glam; Candy Lane and Stefano Olivieri gave a brilliant performance on stage; as did the Candy Lane dancers in Bendon lingerie; P-Money hit the decks; Casey Green modelled on the catwalk looking gorgeous. But it was Anna Fitzpatrick who drew the most comments from guests who told me they were pleased to see a fuller-figure model take to the catwalk. Terry Serepisos came up from Welly for the night; and our hottest acting talent, Karl Urban was spotted ensconced with the Huffer boys, Steve and Dan. It's just a pity we couldn't bring you the piccies.
We hope the charitable people at KidsCan can drop the exclusive arrangements and be more welcoming in future. After all, we all want to help the kids, right?
