Mafia classic

The Godfather

has been named the greatest movie of all-time in a new poll.

The 1972 film directed by Francis Ford Coppola, starring Marlon Brando and Al Pacino, has topped Britain's

Empire

magazine poll to find the best movie ever.

More than 10,000 movie fans, 150 critics and film-makers - including Quentin Tarantino, Sam Mendes, Mike Leigh and Guillermo Del Toro - took part in the poll.

Raiders of the Lost Ark

came in second,

The Empire Strikes Back

third, closely followed by

Jaws

and

The Shawshank Redemption
