The first trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming gets released online

He was the surprise star of this year's Civil War and now Marvel's favourite teenage hero is back for his own movie.

Peter Parker/Spider-Man are back in Spider-Man: Homecoming, the first set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

British actor Tom Holland stars as the red and blue hero, who is struggling to balance his teenage life with his desire to be a superhero.

The trailer shows him being mentored by Robert Downey Jr's Tony Stark, who tells Peter: "Listen, I know school sucks, I know you want to save the world but your not ready yet."

Peter gets a chance to prove himself when new villain The Vulture, who flies around with high-tech wings, begins terrorising New York.

"Don't mess with me, cause I will kill you and everybody you love," says the villain played by Michael Keaton in his first superhero role since 1992's Batman Returns and two years after he played Birdman.

The trailer shows the two will face off several times, most prominently when The Vulture destroys a ferry, forcing Spider-Man to try and hold both halves together.

It won't be all drama though, with a few lighter moments thrown in including Peter creepily watching a possible love interest and then being caught in the suit by a friend.

The movie comes after the Andrew Garfield-led Amazing Spider-Man series bombed critically and financially, leading to Sony to work with Marvel on this latest iteration.

Spider-Man: Homecoming co-stars Jon Favreau, Marisa Tomei and Zendaya. It is scheduled for release on July 6, falling inbetween Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 and Thor: Ragnarok as one of three Marvel movies next year.
