A rep for MediaWorks told The Diary Bax's name "had been on the whiteboard list" but was scratched.
She added, diplomatically: "We would love to have her compete in a future series."
Chenery - a decade younger than Bax - has cha-cha-cha'd her way into the hit show, and good for her.
The dynamic young yoga teacher was hugely popular on the romance reality show and a viewers' favourite. She will be the breakout star of DWTS, mark my words.
Chrystal has undeniable star power, and MediaWorks know they have discovered the next big thing.
She's funny, sassy, strikingly beautiful and prepared to say what's on her mind. How refreshing.
She has had a meteoric rise on the celebrity index so far, thanks to a bit part on a TV show, but with the cameras now focused on her every step (literally) watch her star shine.
It's a pity, though, that the company picked two of their most popular broadcasters to throw in the mix. Frankly, they don't need it.
Jay-Jay Feeney from The Edge radio station and Simon Barnett from More FM are hugely popular on their respective morning shows, and they don't need a dancing show to add to their resumes.
Sure, MediaWorks may wish to leverage off their approval ratings, but in my opinion they should have looked at personalities in their stable who could do with mainstream crowd-pleasing.
Ali Mau, for starters. The RadioLive host, who presents a talkback show with Willie Jackson, has failed to score the big rating hits the network's boss, Jana Rangooni, anticipated. Mau needs popularity, and a show like this would have benefitted her, I believe.
Would she have agreed to foxtrot or tango? Probably not. Mau likes to see herself as a serious broadcaster.
But with every media outlet scrambling to win audiences these days, Mau could have used the popularity plaform to build her brand and deliver a listenership to her daily show.
Bachelor couple gobble spotlight
Their first public outing was strangely next to a media outlet.
Bachelor Art Green and his winning bachelorette Matilda Rice chowed down at Odette's restaurant yesterday, their first public outing together since Rice was proclaimed the winner and awarded the world's gauchest ring.
The lunch at the tucked-away eatery is conveniently situated next to Bauer Media, whose magazine title Woman's Day has splashed every breathless morsel of reality show romance across their glossy pages each week.
Don't be surprised if fake paparazzi shots of the couple lunching together surface this week.
