Not that she lets it go to her head, Lorde told Britain's Time Out magazine this week.
"I live at home, in my childhood bedroom. I travel with my mum and if I were to ever say anything a little bit diva-esque, she'd knock it right down."
SBW sees birth on net
He might not have been there, but Sonny Bill Williams didn't miss a moment of his first child's arrival into the world.
SBW, who is preparing for the All Blacks' clash against Wales in Cardiff on Sunday morning, watched the birth via the internet after being given the day off training.
Sonny Bill Williams is dedicating his Wales test to his newborn daughter.
"All these modern-day technological communications makes it easier to stay connected," a close friend told The Diary.
"Sonny watched [the labour] live as it happened on Skype. He felt like he was very nearly in the delivery room."
The newborn, who arrived early on Wednesday, is yet to be named, but her father is racing home to be by her side as soon as the All Blacks tour wraps.
"Sonny is calling her a gift from God. She is his pride and joy and he can't wait to hold her in his arms," the pal said.
"He will fly back home with the All Blacks and get a connecting flight to Sydney to see [wife] Alana and bubs."
The couple will take the next few days to come up with a name, something they want to do together, the friend confided, adding that SBW will take to the field on Sunday "in honour of his daughter".
All Blacks step up for Samoa
The hashtag #SamoaUnited gained pace on Twitter this week, thanks largely to our All Blacks who stood (and sat) like brothers in arms yesterday posting support online for Manu Samoa colleagues in their stand for players' rights.
Samoan players raised concerns last month regarding the governance and management of the Samoan Rugby Union and threatened to boycott this weekend's test against England if their concerns were not heard. The players say they're committed to working positively with administrators and want the SRU to take the same approach.
Dan Carter, Sonny Bill Williams, Jerome Kaino, Liam Messam and Keven Mealamu were among those who came out in support of the team.
Party time for Watson
Billionaire Owen Glenn may be off the Christmas card list, but Eric Watson has no shortage of newly-minted pals to see in the silly season with. The thick scent of parvenu arriviste hung heavy in the air at the Kensington Palace Orangery on Tuesday where Watson and his partner Lisa hobnobbed at a swanky jewellery launch hosted by the wife of a Russian oligarch.
Elena Perminova, a 20-something who married media mogul Alexander Lebedev, 54, a former KGB spy and funder of the Independent and London Evening Standard newspapers, held court at the party for Sybarite Jewellery, a new Russian trinket brand now set up in Mayfair.
There the Watsons were joined by socialite Lohralee Astor, a former Canadian model-turned-nutritionist who married into the Astor Anglo-American dynasty. Hubby Will, the next Viscount Astor, runs an asset management company. She counts Kiwi designer Emilia Wickstead as a close chum, helping to promote her in the right London circles.
Watson, a former butcher's apprentice and Whitcoulls sales clerk, prides himself on his upward social mobility. His acceptance in London society circles illustrates how far he's come. Fraternising with money, especially the Lebedevs, who own homes at Hampton Court and a chateau outside Paris, catapults Watson into rarefied money circles.
Is it any wonder then he took to Twitter to post a picture from the bash.
The party's guest list read like Tatler's little black book: Viscount Chelsea's daughter Philippa Cadogan, textile designer Tiphaine de Lussy, dystopian artist Dinos Chapman, celebrity sprog Amber Le Bon, It-boy Milo Astaire, socialite model Petra Palumbo and playwright Lady Kinvara Balfour.
Are wrinkly rockers losing gloss?
Sure, they're all legendary multi-millionaire rock stars with a string of famous hits and devoted fans, but has the gloss fallen off the septuagenarian Rolling Stones and their marketing machine? The British rockers play Mt Smart Stadium tomorrow night but tickets have failed to sell out. Worse, the paparazzi in Oz largely gave up on them because their pics weren't reaching the prices of past years. Who wants to see old cronies on a boat in board shorts and topless with their moobs hanging out? Frankly, the Stones just aren't sexy any more. It's been eight years since they last toured here. I expect it will be their last.
Just asking ...
• Which high-profile high-flyer, who can afford to stay at any five-star hotel in the world, chose to celebrate their birthday with a cheap Vietnamese dinner in Panmure followed by a sleepover in the backyard in a pup tent? Wonder what the Northern Slope neighbours thought.
• Which media blonde is fighting for her job and her whopping pay packet?
