To celebrate their 30th anniversary, Dunedin band The Chills are playing a one-off matinee show in the hall where it all began.
The concert, on November 27, will be held at the Coronation Hall on Balmacewan Rd, Dunedin, where 30 years ago Martin Phillipps and his fledgling band were invited to play a support slot for two other local bands, The Clean and Bored Games.
Until that point the lineup of Phillipps, Peter Gutteridge, Jane Dodd, Alan Haig, and Rachel Phillipps had been called The Same and it was at this show that they announced "we are probably going to call ourselves The Chills".
The current band - lineup 33 if Phillipps has got it right - will take a step back in time and in keeping with the era the show will be at 2.30pm and families are welcome (under 16s who come with their parents get in free).
Also to celebrate the milestone, the Chills will release a live album featuring early songs from that first gig (Motels and Cars/I Saw Your Silhouette), along with a selection of unreleased live tracks.
