KEY POINTS:
The British public chose The Bourne Ultimatum, starring Matt Damon as amnesiac assassin Jason Bourne, as film of the year in a vote held by the Richard Attenborough Film Awards.
The national vote was co-ordinated via 25 regional British media outlets, and several thousand people responded. The film was selected from a shortlist of 30 critical and commercial hits selected by industry insiders.
"We shot most of the sequences in The Bourne Ultimatum in London and at the UK's Pinewood Studios with a primarily British crew, so I'm particularly excited that this award has been voted for by the Brits themselves," Damon said.
The public vote was the seventh and final award made in this year's Richard Attenborough Film awards, named after the acclaimed British actor and director.
