KEY POINTS:
If you've been contemplating taking up a new hobby, now's the time to do it - because next year's television line-up will be decidedly thin on the ground.
Just days after NBC announced Lipstick Jungle has been cancelled in America, ABC has cancelled three of its new season shows - Pushing Daisies, Eli Stone and Dirty Sexy Money.
TV3, which screens Lipstick Jungle in New Zealand, were set to begin screening the second series next month but have since replaced it with a new series of Australian drama Sea Patrol.
This month, the return of Dirty Sexy Money was billed as a highlight of next year's line-up at the TVNZ new season launch. However, ABC's decision means there will be no new episodes to screen. The first series screened on TV2 earlier this year, along with Pushing Daisies, before both were cut short by the writers' strike.
Eli Stone debuted on TV2 later in the year, but was dumped from the schedule due to poor ratings.
All three series were predicted to be hits of the 2008 season, which has become one of the weakest on record, following major disruptions from the writers' strike.
