Big Bang Theory star Mayim Bialik has revealed she was "shocked" by a storyline involving her character on the hit show.
The actor, who plays Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler on the show, told news.com.au that she trusts the show's writers "and they usually do a great job in showing the development of my character".
But she was more than a little surprised by what happened to her character in the season 10 finale.
"I was shocked when Sheldon proposed but again - they [the writers] get to decide what happens to Amy, not me!"
Big Bang Theory fans are eagerly awaiting for the start of season 11 in September in the US to see if Amy will accept Sheldon's proposal, which came after he kissed another woman.
But showrunner Steve Molaro told The Hollywood Reporter in May that even he's not sure if Amy will accept the proposal.
"I don't know what's going to happen but any viewer would imagine she would - but we, the audience, know what propelled him there," he said. "It's an interesting situation and I'm excited to see how it turns out."
Molaro told THR that they came up with the idea of the proposal only a couple of weeks before the end of season 10.
"We started batting around ways it could end," he said. "Once we were in the territory that Ramona [the other woman that Sheldon kissed] was going to be sniffing around, that seemed to be an organic way to get to Sheldon proposing. We've known this ring has been floating around for a while so it's not outrageous that he had the engagement ring."
If indeed Amy does accept Sheldon's proposal though, Molaro indicated that a Big Bang Theory wedding could be a while away.
"It's a slow-moving relationship and wedding dates are movable, so who knows," he said. "I would imagine they're not in a rush but we try not to plan too far ahead - because it helps keep things exciting and organic. But time will tell."
Although she plays Sheldon's lover on screen, Bialik told news.com.au that off camera she has a soft spot for another of her co-stars.
"Simon Helberg [who plays Howard Wolowitz] makes me laugh a lot," she said. "He does amazing impressions and he cracks me up all the time. I like to say I am his biggest fan!"
Bialik also raved about her other co-stars, saying, "We actually love each other and enjoy our time together. We joke around a lot and care about each other's lives. It's sweet and it's a real blessing."
In addition to her role on The Big Bang Theory, Bialik is also an author, neuroscientist and environmentalist.
Her passion for the latter inspired her to take part in a new SodaStream campaign alongside Kristian Nairn aka Hodor from Game of Thrones.
"More than one billion plastic beverage bottles are used each day around the world, the majority of which end up in our landfills, parks and oceans devastating the environment and killing marine animals," Bialik said.
