Celebrity breakups are by nature more complicated than they are for regular couples for a host of reasons, whether it’s conflicting filming or performing schedules or having to divide up costly assets or intellectual property from projects they worked on together.
While 2024 saw several new celebrity couples step into the spotlight – from Meryl Streep and Martin Short to Paul Mescal and Gracie Abrams – several high-profile couples also announced they were splitting up in recent months.
Here are 10 of the celebrity break-ups that made headlines this year.
Affleck and Lopez met in 2001, announcing their engagement the very next year. Days before the wedding was set to take place, the couple announced that they were postponing the ceremony over “excessive media attention”.
That postponement lasted 20 years, with each going on to marry other people and have children before they reunited in 2021.
Hague shared a statement on her Instagram story confirming the split and telling her followers she would be taking a social media break amid the news, writing, “I am extremely upset to announce that mine and Tommy’s relationship has come to an end.
“I will forever be grateful for the most important thing to me now and always, my beautiful daughter. Without us there would be no her, she will always be my priority.”
The pair shared a joint statement on Instagram at the time, writing on Instagram, “We wish to express the gratitude and respect we have for one another as we continue our journeys on different paths.
“We won’t be commenting further on this, and really appreciate your respect and privacy at this time.”
She admitted at the time that the arrangement was “hard to accept”, telling a fan on TikTok, “I am not with my son 50% of the time and therefore won’t know 50% of his life.”
She shared the news on Facebook at the time, writing, “People have been asking what is going on in my life. Unfortunately, my husband and I are going through a separation and I moved in with my parents [sic] home down the bayou.”
Blanchard is now expecting her first child, a baby girl, with her boyfriend Ken Urker.
The pair were married for nearly 18 years, but had separated in June last year, she said.
At the time, Spelling petitioned for sole physical custody and joint legal custody of their five children. The marriage had been documented on the reality TV show Tori & Dean: Inn Love, which was later renamed Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood.
Channing Tatum and Zoe Kravitz
In October, it was reported that actors Zoë Kravitz and Channing Tatum had broken up.
It came just months after the release of Blink Twice, directed by Kravitz and starring Tatum. The pair began dating after working on the film and announced their engagement last year.
