That Bloody Woman; Tour-Makers. By Luke Di Somma & Gregory Cooper. Directed by Kip Chapman. Starring Westside's Esther Stephens as Kate Sheppard.
Kate's back! 2016's smash hit musical That Bloody Woman is coming to Napier on Tuesday, October 17, bringing this national treasure back to life in a nationwide campaign to rock the vote for this election.
Our favourite daughter, suffragist, activist and cyclist Kate Sheppard is transformed from the face on the $10 note into a feminist firebrand, raising hell and rocking out.
The show has great musical numbers, tongue-in-cheek asides and a prime minister who raps. That Bloody Woman showcases our ceiling-shattering history and asks us to consider whether we have come as far as we would like.
This musical, by Christchurch-born writers Luke Di Somma and Gregory Cooper, premièred at the 2015 Christchurch Arts Festival with a sold-out season for its fiery, fresh and funny take on Sheppard's fight to give women the vote.
