It was once the preserve of drunk American college students but Beer Pong has become a serious competitive sport around the world and here in New Zealand.
More than 100 teams competed in the Auckland regional final alone. Now, eight regional champions will take each other on in the battle to be crowned National Champions and head to Las Vegas to compete in the World Series.
Traditionally a drinking game, which requires players to throw ping pong balls into cups of beer that their opponents must then drink, the KiwiPong World Series focuses on sporting prowess, replacing beer with water.
The national final will be held in Auckland this afternoon, with live updates on Hauraki's Afternoon Express with Mikey Havoc (3pm - 6pm).
The World Series will take place in Las Vegas in January with a US$50,000 ($72,600) prize up for grabs.
