KEY POINTS:
There's a peeping tom coming to town and his name is Mike Patton.
The former Faith No More frontman, and member of Mr Bungle, Fantomas and Tomahawk, plays Auckland's St James with his latest musical project, Peeping Tom, on June 16.
Last year's self-titled album included guest appearances from Norah Jones, Massive Attack and Kool Keith and was well-known for Jones cooing profanities on the song Sucker. Few thought she had those sorts of words in her vocabulary.
The video for the album's first single, Mojo, featured Rachel Hunter and Danny DeVito.
Compared with Patton's more extreme musical forays, in particular Fantomas and Mr Bungle, Peeping Tom is reasonably sedate combining hip-hop, pop and his own experimental and warped beats and manipulations.
And he admits: "This is my version of pop music."
The album was six years in the making.
Patton sent the various guests songs files so they could add their parts.
The live set-up is a little different with Patton backed by an eight-piece band.
You'd best take a peek.
