Taika Waititi is returning to the small screen in Brown Eye, a satirical look at the news with a Maori perspective which is starting on Maori Television next month.
The show will be fronted by Nathan Rarere, from Livesport's breakfast show, who in his younger days, was a host on TV3's youth show Ice TV.
Waititi is a producer on the show with Bailey Mackey. He will appear on the show as Uncle Isaac, giving his insight into subjects such as the Treaty of Waitangi.
Writers for the programme include Chelsea Winstanley, who is Waititi's wife and co-producer on the vampire spoof on What We Do in the Shadows, and Paul Casserly, who among many other things, is a TV blogger for nzherald.co.nz.
The show starts on May 15 and will screen at 9.30pm on Friday nights, putting it in competition with TV3's 7 Days.
