Indie-folk pop troubadour Sufjan Stevens, whose music is also infused with everything from experimental electronica to art rock, plays New Zealand for the first time with his 11-piece band in February.
He plays the Bruce Mason Centre on February 7 and the Wellington Opera House on February 8.
His 10th and latest album, The Age of Adz, released earlier this year, was a breakthrough of sorts for the Detroit songwriter when it peaked at No 7 on the US charts.
On the heavier music front mainstream metallers Disturbed return to New Zealand for a show on May 3 at Vector Arena with support from Trivium and As I Lay Dying. For some twisted heaviness, the Melvins play four shows in New Zealand, including the Kings Arms on February 19.
Meanwhile, the final announcement of acts playing at Rhythm and Vines in Gisborne over New Year includes sonic experimentalists Flying Lotus, The Gaslamp Killer and Hudson Mohawk, as well as locals The Naked and Famous and 70s rockers Dragon.
