Stripping a stranger - is this the worst dating show yet?

Married At First Sight, First Dates, The Bachelor and Kiss Bang Love. Australians love their dating shows - but the latest might just be a step too far.

A new show being proposed over the ditch is calling for volunteers to strip each other naked - then climb into bed together.

In Undressed, billed on its website as an "experimental" new show, complete strangers will be forced into "instant intimacy" while cameras roll.

The show first appeared in Italy but has been adopted in the UK and now Australia.

"Hopeful singles on Undressed will be asked to leave everything but their underwear aside, skip dinner and drinks, and go straight to undressing a total stranger before jumping into bed," an article on SBS online states.

"The matchmaking social experiment will explore cultural diversity and preconceptions about race and sexuality - challenging both viewer and contributor prejudices."

Those looking for love on the series will take part in a number of activities, carefully chosen based on research which shows that naturally occurring attraction can be accelerated by forcing willing participants into unusually intimate scenarios.

Questions flash up on a screen in front of the pair, supposedly accelerating intimacy between them.

"Psychological research suggests that attraction can be accelerated by answering increasingly intimate questions within a tight 30 minute time frame," the online application asserts.

After the encounter, the two contestants are then asked whether or not they'd like to continue with their date.

With TVNZ already working on a version of First Dates - a show which films couples dining together for the first time - it might not be long before we see Kiwis doing the same thing.
