KEY POINTS:
The Golden Globes will be a low-key affair this year, with the customary lavish dinner and ceremony being canned in favour of a scaled-down press conference.
Awards will still be handed out, but there will be none of the red carpet glitz which usually accompanies the awards ceremony.
The LA Times website reports that the Golden Globes' organisers, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), have reached a compromise deal that will allow winners to receive their awards informally on Sunday, after which a press conference will be held, announcing the victors.
The decision to do away with the dinner and ceremony was made in light of the ongoing strike by the Writers Guild of America, which had vowed to picket the event.
A boycott of the awards ceremony by actors supporting the guild was also widely believed to be on the cards.
The LA Times reported that the NBC would forgo its usual coverage, focusing instead on the press conference, followed by a Dateline special about the nominees and a clip show.
The scriptwriters' strike began in November and has already forced the suspension of numerous television series and the postponement of work on several Hollywood films.
