Wondering what to watch? Here are four shows you should stream this week.
Isn't It Romantic (Netflix)
We all love a Rebel Wilson film and this is a good one. The sassy Aussie actress stars in Isn't It Romantic as Natalie, an architect struggling to get noticed in her New York job. She's the type of person who gets asked to pick up coffee and bagels than to actually design the next skyscraper. Things get interesting when Natalie hits her head, wakes up and believes she's become the leading lady in her very own rom-com. The cute, feel-good movie stars Liam Hemsworth as Natalie's handsome client Blake, Adam Devine as her earnest best friend Josh, and Priyanka Chopra as yoga ambassador Isabella. Streaming now on Netflix.
Looking for a new true-crime binge-watch? Manhunt is just the thing to sink your teeth into. The miniseries is based on a real-life murder investigation of Amelie Delagrange, a French student who died in hospital after being found in Twickenham Green with serious head injuries. That's where Manhunt begins, with Martin Clunes' DCI Collin Sutton being appointed as the senior investigating officer on the case. The show follows the painstaking detective work that goes into finding the suspect, and all the way to trial. Manhunt is streaming on TVNZ OnDemand from Sunday.
Isle of Dogs (Neon)
It was a ruff loss for Isle of Dogs in the Best Animated Movie category at the Oscar's this week. But Wes Anderson's charmingly quirky and typically idiosyncratic film remains a must see. Lovingly shot in laborious stop-motion animation it's as much a treat for the eyes as its story is entertaining.
The movie's about a young boy who sets out to save his pet dog from the island where all of Tokyo's canines have been banished too. While he's trying to break in, his pet is trying to bust out and make his way back home with the help of some shaggy new pals.
Despite looking like kids-fare and being a movie about a boy and his dog, Isle of Dogs is a resolutely Wes Anderson film. Funny, whimsical, inventive, and filled with flashes of occasionally shocking violence. You'd be barking mad to miss it.
Beautiful Boy (Lightbox)
Call Me By Your Name breakout Timothee Chalamet sinks his teeth into another meaty, emotional role in Beautiful Boy, following a father (Steve Carell) trying to help his son battle a debilitating meth addiction. Based on the real-life story of journalist David Sheff and his son Nic, Beautiful Boy picked up a Golden Globe nomination for Chalamet's anguished, full-body performance. While reviews were mixed, the overall consensus was that Beautiful Boy is a tear-jerker – so make sure you have some hankies at the ready. Streaming from Wednesday.
