KEY POINTS:
Auckland knitters have been clicking away during the past year creating blankets that are being transformed into Shelter, an installation at Artstation in Ponsonby Rd.
Artstation's Domestic Craft and Contemporary Art group (also known as the Knitterati) has turned the craft of knitting into a community action.
"We are bringing all the blankets created in homes, libraries, cafes and community centres together to form a temporary architectural shelter," says member Liz Wilkinson.
Shelter will show at Artstation from May 15-21, after which the blankets will be donated to the New Zealand Red Cross for refugees.
The Knitterati will hold free workshops for schools and community groups.
* Bookings close May 8 for workshops on May 20, 22, 27 and 29 and Saturday (May 24), from 10-11am or 1-2pm. To register or for more information, see www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/artstation or ph (09) 376 3221.
