Despite still being in the middle of filming the stand-alone Han Solo flick, Star Wars has again proved why it's still one of the biggest franchises in the world - by already announcing the next movie it has dreamt up.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, director Stephen Daldry is in very early talks to helm Star Wars' next grand plan - a stand-alone film centring on Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Daldry, who has received Oscar nominations for directing Billy Elliot, The Hours and The Reader, is currently the only person confirmed for the Jedi-centric film.
Kenobi was originally played by Alec Guinness, who died in 2000, with Scottish actor Ewan McGregor since playing the Jedi for four movies.
McGregor, whose last time as Obi-Wan was a brief cameo in the 2015 movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens, has regularly expressed his interest at returning to the role.
Speaking to Business Insiderearlier this year, McGregor said he'd be "happy to do it".
"Listen, I have been asked about it a lot, to the point where it looks a bit like I'm sort of touting for work," he said.
"I've been very open to say I'd be happy to do it, if they want to do it," he added.
While fans will no doubt be excited about Obi-Wan Kenobi finally getting an origin story, it's unclear when or where exactly the movie will be set.
In the original Star Wars trilogy, Kenobi was a desert hermit before proving his worth as a powerful Jedi, even mentoring a young Luke Skywalker before he's killed by Luke's father Darth Vader.
LucasFilms CEO Kathleen Kennedy hinted that the company's Star Wars franchise would be announcing something exciting in an interview with MTV in April.
"I think we're getting close. My hope would be [to announce] sometime around the summer. I never want to predict the creative process because it is its own thing, so we're in the midst of those discussions right now," she said.
While the script and the cast are yet to be confirmed, LucasFilms is also reportedly already considering movies centring on Yoda and bounty hunter Boba Fett.
The untitled Han Solo movie, which recently came under new direction from Ron Howard, is slated for release in May 2018.
The movie will star Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo and, according to the Star Wars website, will be set before Star Wars: A New Hope.
"The movie will explore the duo's [Han Solo and Chewbacca's] adventures before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope, including their early encounters with that other card-playing rogue from a galaxy far, far away, Lando Calrissian," the website explained.
Other stars set to appear in the movie include Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke and Donald Glover.
