Wedding of the Year
A stand out as the engagement, wedding and baby news all happened within a year. New Zealand's queen of fashion footwear, Kathryn Wilson, kicked her heels up at a Beyonce-themed hens' night before marrying Liam Taylor, director of Auckland PR and events agency Darkhorse, at Easter. Within weeks, the pair were pregnant and are expecting a bundle of joy early in the New Year.
Most Annoyingly Nice Couple
Spark mobile technology educator Matt Gibb and TVNZ reporter Ruth Wynn-Williams.
Their squeaky-clean image has people confusing them for brother and sister. They are so impossibly nice, you walk away hoping they're really being bitchy.
Single Woman of the Yea
National MP Nikki Kaye takes this gong. Having trumped this year's polls, it seems she may still be looking to win in love. Like counterpart Jacinda Ardern, Kaye's love life has been the centre of much speculation this year. It seems the blonde power girl - who's as comfortable with a glass of wine in her hand as doing a marathon - won't be going public with her private life until she has found the one.
Single Man of the Year
Olympic sailor Blair Tuke. Tuke and his yachting partner, Peter Burling, have had an incredible year, going unbeaten at all major 49er regattas worldwide. Tuke's chiselled good looks have him on the end of much female admiration, but he has politely declined Spy requests to talk about his love life. Good for you.
Most Unpatriotic Sailor
It's not Brad Butterworth and it's not Russell Coutts. New Zealand's wealthiest man, Graeme Hart, deserves an honour from Norway for services to their economy. In August, Hart was in Norway to watch his $78 million, 107m yacht, Ulysses, being launched. Late last month, it was announced Hart had finalised plans for another superyacht to add to his collection - also made and designed in Norway. The new boat will be 10m longer than Ulysses. There may be hope for New Zealand boat builders as the vessel will have a hangar for several smaller boats. Go on, build them here, Graeme.
Hottest Couple
He's taken his time choosing, but All Black captain Richie McCaw is finally off the market - his hot hockey-playing girlfriend Gemma Flynn moved into his Christchurch pad recently. Flynn, whose gift for her boyfriend's 100th test as captain was a personalised Working Style jacket, is as nice as she looks. They are easily New Zealand's hottest couple.
Telly Babe to Watch
Actress Fern Sutherland, the former Almighty Johnsons' star, changed her sexy blonde locks to a dreary mousey colour to take on her role as Detective Kristin Sim on Prime's The Brokenwood Mysteries. This week, the series was given the green light for a second season. When Sutherland isn't solving crime she works PR at South Pacific Pictures and parties around town with Ben Barrington and Will Hall.
Cutest Baby
Sharing the title, identical Reeve twins Oscar and Hunter have captured our hearts with the snaps proud parents Anna and Jay have shared of them on social media.
We reckon Sonny Bill and Alana Williams' daughter, Imaan, will also be divine when we get to see her.
Social Media Sex Scandal #1
The All Black and the stripper. Aaron Smith's affair with Lisa Lewis ended his relationship with Hannah Whitefield and set off a chain reaction that saw his full frontal selfie dubiously published on Twitter.
... and #2
Teuila Blakely and Konrad Hurrell's sex video. It was Blakely's Kardashian moment - she fronted the media and left Shortland Street while Warrior Hurrell kept on spinning the ball with no comment of his own.
Saddest Break Ups
In June, Kiwi actor and Hollywood hottie Karl Urban announced he and his wife, make-up artist Natalie Wihongi, had separated. His love life has been hotly speculated on since, and the mums think he's a great addition to the Ponsonby school-run scene.
Kim and Mona Dotcom: It's about the kids, not political parties or magazine covers.
Kim Dotcom and Hone Harawira: A political match made in hell. Clarke Gayford and Shavaughn Ruakere. Kylie Bax and Spiros Poros. Paul Ellis and Tobias Grant.
Best Comeback
After a tumultuous couple of years, which included being arrested after an altercation in a central Auckland bar, Keisha Castle-Hughes is back. She is starring in Game of Thrones, landed a cameo in The Walking Dead and to top that off, has just been named a key cast member in the new US TV series Roadies, with renowned Almost Famous director Cameron Crowe.
Spy's Worst Interview
It's not that it was bad, it was that it felt plain wrong when Spy met X Factor judges and newlyweds Willy Moon and Natalia Kills backstage at the MediaWorks' season launch. We had heard they were full on, but when Kills invited us on a sex-capade, we weren't tempted. We look forward to many headlines and cringe-worthy moments when the show screens early next year.
Over-hyped and Over Here
After much anticipation, Kiwi actor Spencer Falls (a Lyndsay Lohan ex) returned from LA and is heating up our screens as "ladies' man" Garrett Whitley on Shortland Street. But we can't help but feel a bit ripped off. Come on, Spencer, give us some juice on your personal life next year!
The Lassie Come Home Award
Judith Collins looks lost in Parliament's back benches. Her communications on social media and in general are now carefully planned and monitored, and there's little shooting from the hip from the ex-minister, after the Oravida and Dirty Politics scandals. Boring!
Party of the Year
In March, NBC Universal execs brought the E! Channel's Fashion Police star George Kotsiopoulos for a meet and greet in Auckland. Mantels, with its Californian ambience, proved a perfect location during Auckland's Indian Summer. Celebrities, fashionistas and A-listers drank fabulous cocktails and most got face time with their Fashion Police hero. Yummy mummy Aja Rock set tongues wagging for proudly showing off her trim body just weeks after having her third child.
New Socialite on the Block
Unlike PM John Key's daughter Steffi, who escaped to Paris, son Max has stayed in the fish bowl and embraced the social scene. In a year he has gone from geeky school kid to fully fledged guy about town, juggling studies at Auckland University with nights out with his brat pack at clubs such as Roxy and 1885. He was even snapped with Mona Dotcom, ex-wife of his father's nemesis, and is now DJing up a storm in the Troskey double act. The young Keyster proudly posts scenes of his life on Instagram, wisely ignoring the Tory haters' comments.
Sexiest Untold Story
The hot secret we wanted to tell you but couldn't, about the TV star and the inappropriate workplace romance.
Best Actor
Shortland Street stars planning their exodus should take a leaf out of Danielle Cormack's book. She started her TV career lip-syncing a KFC ad and went on to find fame on Shortland Street. She furthered her craft in the theatre and movies, and is now the toast of the Australian acting and celebrity scene. She followed up her hugely successful season on Wentworth as Bea Smith and stepped back on to the stage to play Rupert Murdoch's long suffering wife, Anna Murdoch, in David Williamson's play Rupert. And she has never looked hotter. Bravo ...
