Brooke Thompson and Mitch Davies have won over the judges with their rebuild on The Block NZ.

But the Cantab pair haven't fared as well with many of the reality DIY show's fans.

They regularly take a hammering for their on-screen demeanour, which has included some cutting reviews and tactical marking down of their rivals' work - and the odd tantrum from 25-year-old banker Thompson.

And as the show enters its final week, the pair have hit back at the at-times savage abuse.

"Don't believe everything you see on television," the pair told Spy.

"We are all very good friends on The Block and there are no hard feelings."

Their on-screen opponents have tried to use their media interviews to vouch for the couple.

Asked whether they may have been victims of some less-than-flattering TV editing, they added: "Hands down, yes, but we knew what we signed up for.

"We discussed those pitfalls with our family and friends before the show and it comes with the territory."

Their pre-show preparations included Thompson and her partner of five years, 26-year-old plumber Davies, visiting a counsellor to ensure they had the tools to handle the stress associated with their reality TV debut.

Online nastiness towards Thompson and Davies peaked after their tactical marking of opponents to ensure they won challenges and some much-needed cash.

They don't regret their scoring - which has included a string of zeros - but the abuse was over the top, they said.

As they prepare for next Sunday night's live auction - where the team that earns the highest profit will scoop an additional $100,000 - Thompson and Davies revealed they want to turn around their experience of being trolled online into a positive, including educating young people on the damaging effects of cyber-abuse.
