A swarm of Eurocopters is set to land on Waiheke Island today for the wealthiest charity fundraiser of the summer. The cause: The Waiheke Headland Sculpture on the Gulf Patrons Summer Soiree.
About 250 of the Who's Who of Waiheke, the wider Auckland art community and other influential movers and shakers are attending the stunning home of Dallas and Ross Pendergrast perched on the Owhanake Bay clifftop, capturing expansive and spectacular views of the Hauraki Gulf.
Sculpture on the Gulf is biennial and has become a major event on the New Zealand and international arts calendar. It is a stunning showcase for emerging and established sculptors. The exhibition was a roaring success last year.
The net worth of those on the guest list for next weekend's fundraiser easily tops the billion-dollar figure.
All guests are viewed as possible patrons, donating money or support for next year's exhibition, where more than 20 significant sculptures will be exhibited. They will be chosen by a highly regarded panel of selectors, led by Dr Zara Stanhope, Principal Curator at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tamaki.
