The Blues snatched a controversial after-the-buzzer, last-minute penalty kick last weekend to tie with the Queensland Reds and have since made the most of an Easter bye to do some social bonding before a recharge.
On Tuesday night, several players including Steven Luatua, and Josh Bekhuis came out to meet Game of Thrones star and rugby fan Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy) at a private party thrown by Sky Television at Golden Dawn in Ponsonby. The meet-and-greet went well and Allen visited the team at their new training facility at Alexandra Park the next morning.
After a day of running around, the boys had more social duties to perform at SkyCity. Captain Jerome Kaino and Charlie Faumuina were there for a progressive dinner hosted by Gusto, The Grill and Masu. Two players joined each table as guests, and fans and sponsors savoured entree, main and dessert from the three popular eateries. To help the gents keep their energy flowing, SkyCity brought in another of the teams it sponsors to mix up the codes - a table of Mystics netballers.
Kayla Cullen was there, without her Warrior beau Shaun Johnson, but Spy's eyes were on the new player, English star netballer Serena Guthrie, wing defence and centre for the Mystics.
