A Spotify spokesperson has responded to Nicki Minaj's claims that the streaming service penalised her, which she says stopped her album from hitting the No. 1 spot on the US charts.
In a series of tweets on Sunday, Minaj said Spotify was trying to "teach me a lesson" for playing her music early on Queen Radio, her Apple Music show. She claimed Spotify retracted a previously agreed upon promotion of her new album.
In a statement to Variety, a representative for Spotify said: "Spotify supported Nicki Minaj with a Times Square billboard, a host of the largest playlists, New Music Friday and the new music release shelf.
"Her song Bed actually saw an increase based on the promotions put behind the campaign. The company continues to be big fans of Nicki."
Minaj also blamed Travis Scott, whose album Astroworld hit No. 1, and his girlfriend Kylie Jenner, saying Scott's album bundles and Jenner's Instagram helped bolster his sales.
