Having already won two technical categories in the NZ Music Awards for debut album Passive Me, Aggressive You and leading the finalist list with five more nominations, it's safe to say The Naked and Famous are going to come away with a fair few Tuis tonight.
They've had an impressive year and spent most of it touring internationally. Meanwhile their songs have found their way into many soundtracks too, the latest being two songs in the big-budget extreme sports film The Art of Flight, which is now screening in local cinemas. The adventure doco follows a team of snowboarders in remote mountains from Alaska to Patagonia.
"Even though we're not big snowboard movie watchers, we are really proud to be part of this film" band member Aaron Short explains. "We've been spreading the word to all our other non-snowboard-movie-fan friends. Beautifully shot footage showing off some incredible scenery, and an even more amazing soundtrack to complement it."
The soundtrack also features Sigur Ros, M83, Deadmau5, and Okkervil River, and manager Paul McKessar says the band have seen their fanbase widen as a result, with comments referencing the film on the group's Facebook and YouTube clips.
