Social media lashes out at two attempts to sell winning Block house

Thousands of disgruntled fans have taken to social media as a stinging backlash unfolds after the winning team was given two attempts to sell their house under the hammer.

For the first time in The Block NZ history, one of the houses was passed in - before a surprise twist saw it put back up for sale at the end of the night.

Many commenters called the show's finale a "complete train wreck" and have vowed to never to watch the show again.

After initially failing to meet the reserve, house two eventually sold for $1,250,000 - netting Hamilton dads Andy Murdie and Nate Ross a $30,000 profit and making them the overall winners of season six.

The result came as a crushing blow to Palmerston North best friends Stacey Cottrill and Yanita McLeay who, as the final house up for auction, thought their profit margin had secured them the win and the $100,000 prize.

Soon after the Hamilton dads' home was passed in it was announced on air and on social media the home would go on the market and the contestants stood to gain the profit. But as it hadn't sold at auction they were out of the running for the $100,000 prize money.

Now a tsunami of fans have taken to the show's official Facebook page saying the Palmerston North besties were the rightful winners.

Kimberley Gibb posted: "When the house got passed in that should have been the end of the line for Andy and Nate."

"I also heard Mark [Richardson] announce they can still make some profit but not the prize money not a good ending to a good series," posted Carolyn Meihana.

"He told them they have to beat the twins to win. He said the boys were out of the running. They didn't get their hopes up it was what we all thought that they had won! Only to be taken away from them last minute. I like the dads and the work they did but they certainly did not win this the girls did," wrote Amy Dore.

"They never said if your house doesn't meet reserve we will pop you in again at the end and you can still be eligible for the $100k, if they know Ling and Zing would have passed in their house and had another go," posted Helen Mason.

Scores have declared the show's finale a "complete train wreck" and vowed never to watch the show again.

Two Givealittle pages have already been set up by fans for teams who missed out on the prizemoney with those behind the pages saying the contestants clearly deserved more.

A page for contestants Ling and Zing has raised almost $5000.
