Not much gets past Coronation Street's savvy businesswoman Carla Gordon. Spurred on by her chat with Jed, she digs for dirt on husband Tony and - during a showdown at the factory - he finally makes a startling admission this Friday.
Carla's mission to uncover the truth hots up as she visits widowed Maria, who claims that Tony (Gray O'Brien) hired a hitman to bump off Liam. She can't help wondering if it's true, and confronts her husband about the ligature marks that Jed had around his neck.
Tony convinces his wife that Jed tried to hang himself. But, when he orders pal Jimmy to keep Jed quiet, his lies unravel.
Jed collapses, and Carla quite rightly puts two and two together when she overhears that the pensioner has been rushed to hospital with a suspected heart attack.
Determined to get to the bottom of things, she questions Jimmy about Tony - and the final pieces of the jigsaw fit together.
"She tries to get some answers from him and he clams up, but she gets the truth from his eyes," says Alison King, who plays Carla.
Jimmy calls his mate to warn him about Carla's visit, and Tony sends the factory workers home in anticipation of her arrival. As she walks into Underworld, he locks the door, and a nervous Carla demands answers.
"She goads Tony about Liam being the love of her life," adds King. "He finally crumbles and comes clean, telling her he killed Liam because he didn't want to lose her.
"She's in shock, and doesn't think she'll get out alive."
