KEY POINTS:
Soap star Adam Rickitt is about to start burning the candle at both ends as he fronts up to be a graveyard talkback host.
The former Coronation Street actor is working on TV2's Shortland Street and will host part of Newstalk ZB's midnight-to-dawn show for a "trial" period.
Rickitt, who has bought a home in Auckland, is looking forward to the test run, and is planning to "have a bit of fun with it".
"I've done radio in the past, so I've jumped at the chance... you have a personal link to the audience," he said.
The actor, who trained as a journalist, said he was a "complete news junkie" and wouldn't shy away from frank discussions. "I'm an argumentative little bastard."
Juggling Shortland Street with radio work would be difficult, he said, but he wouldn't rule out taking on a weekend shift.
General manager of talk at The Radio Network, Bill Francis, confirmed Rickitt was keen to try a new act.
Francis said Rickitt would not necessarily get a full-time position fronting the overnight shift, which is hosted by veteran broadcaster Bruce Russell.
Rickitt will initially do short one-hour stints at around 1am, "to see how it goes".
