My first job was ... working at my dad's cafe in West Lynn, Auckland, as a gopher. Mmmmm ... pies.
It taught me ... too many pies are bad for your health.
My big break came … when I followed my Rarotongan mate to guitar class at high school and subsequently joined the school orchestra.
The last job I quit was … my job as a poster guy when I was a teenager. I remember doing a poster run for the Guns N' Roses concert and I was paid to monitor a couple of walls in the CBD. I was paid to make sure no one posted over our images. Mate, I didn't realise it could get so serious. I had an altercation with some competitors, and basically, I said: "Just wait 'til my shift is finished, and it's all yours." I quit that night.
The most famous person I've ever met is … Bob Marley, when he came to New Zealand in 1979. I was 4 years old. He came to perform a concert in Auckland at Western Springs. My mum (Miriam Rauhihi) acquired some backstage passes from Rita Marley, and I got to meet Bob at his hotel in Greenlane. I've got mileage out of this story, but it's a definitely grand memory that I cherish.
