Fireworks lit up Auckland skies last night as the city celebrated Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights.
Over the weekend, thousands packed Aotea Square for the Auckland Diwali Festival, which featured performances, food stalls and festive bazaars.
It was organised by the Asia New Zealand Foundation and Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (Ateed), and more than 800 artists performed.
They included renowned international performers the Sattriya Dance Theatre Group from Assam, India.
"Cultural festivals like Diwali contribute to Auckland becoming the world's most liveable city by celebrating our cultural diversity and bringing a real buzz to the city centre," said Ateed chief executive Brett O'Riley.
