Simon Pegg slams Transformers, Man of Steel, Star Trek haters

British actor Simon Pegg has gone on a mega-rant, slamming Transformers as "dull," criticising the ending of recent Superman movie Man of Steel and hitting out at bad reviews of Star Trek.

Pegg - who had a starring role in Star Trek: Into Darkness and comedy-apocalypse tale The World's End - began his series of ranty interviews by criticising haters of Star Trek.

His ire was sparked when an interviewer asked him why Into Darkness was voted the worst Star Trek movie of all time, The Wrap reported.

"It absolutely isn't the worst Star Trek movie," Pegg responded. "It's asinine, you know? It's ridiculous. And frustrating. To be subject to that level of sort of, like, crass f***ing ire, I just say f*** you."

Then, in an interview with Vulture, he turned his gaze towards Michael Bay's successful Transformers trilogy, calling the series "mind-numbingly dull".

"Transformers is a movie version of a toy, which came out of a series about robots, which was aimed at children, and then suddenly it's a thing that's skewed towards adults, but it is just toys fighting," he said.

"It's all it is. And it doesn't really say anything about us or the world."

He told Vulture that science fiction films had "lost their way over the years".

"People suddenly think it's about the robots ... It was never about the robots. It's always been about the people. And robots have been a metaphor for something. And there doesn't seem to be a metaphor now ...

"That was one of the things that blew me away about Man of Steel, that at the end, they're all at the Daily Planet office just going, 'Hey! Let's go see the Dodgers!'

"Isn't everyone dead? Isn't New York flat? What do you mean, go see the Dodgers?!"
