Former Black Caps bowler Simon Doull will swap the jetset lifestyle of a global cricket commentator for hire for a quick pre-dawn blast up the Waikato Expressway when he starts work as Andrew Mulligan's co-host on The Crowd Goes Wild breakfast show early next month.
Doull, 46, underwent a full knee reconstruction just six weeks ago to repair damage suffered during his cricketing days.
While he has made a strong recovery - having already returned to the golf course - international travel is out. So when Mark Richardson's slot on Radio Sport's flagship breakfast show became vacant, Doull jumped at the chance.
"It's a bit of a change but I am looking forward to it," Doull said. "It will be nice to be based in New Zealand for a while rather than having to travel all the time."
Doull has plenty of radio experience, having served as the sporty voice on The Rock's breakfast show - a role also previously performed by Mulligan. The pair's paths did not cross at The Rock but they have worked together as cricket commentators and have a solid rapport.
