Things that makes us go 'argh'
"What's the most objectively nice thing that you absolutely hate?" asks British writer Stuart Heritage of his Twitter followers ...
1. "My dad would say standing ovations. Every time he goes to the theatre he gets furious about how it's "the symptom of a culture that celebrates mediocrity".
2. "Clapping in general. But especially an audience clapping along in time to the music — it makes me feel so unbearably awkward."
3. "People who get guitars out at parties and 'jam' ... "
4. "Framed inspirational quotes generally and pictures of people's families at work."
5. "Waiters/waitresses asking if you're enjoying your meal while you have a mouthful of food."
6. "World's best dad/ number1 mum mugs. Detestable."
7. "Couples using public Twitter to ask each other things when they could just text privately."
8. "Bunches of flowers. Why did you kill those beautiful flowers you tricking maniac?"
9. "People who slow their car to let me cross the road where there is no crossing. Unnecessary ambiguity created when I was ready to just wait for them to pass."
10."Fire poi ... hippie attention-seeking."
Politicians behaving badly
In trouble over the purchase of a US$31,000 ($43,000) mahogany dining suite for his office, US Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson threw his wife under the bus. He explained to a hearing that his wife, Candy, was the one who bought it, without his knowledge."If it were up to me my office would probably look like a hospital waiting room, but at any rate, I invited my wife to come along and help me," he says, referring to redecorating his office. He explains that the old dining furniture needed to be replaced, so he was given a catalogue to look at. "The prices were beyond what I wanted to pay," he said. "I made it clear that that just didn't seem right to me, and I left it with my wife."
