Our Government has just formally nominated Helen Clark for the United Nations top job, then this T-shirt hits Trade Me.
Fortunate coincidence
"I was pricing up a refurbishment of a restaurant in central London and was running late to get to the final meeting to hand in our quote. I hailed a black cab got in and told the driver my destination. That's a coincidence he said 'I took another couple of gentleman there earlier' and he then told me about their conversation, he had overheard, which included how much their bid for the job was (cheaper than mine.) So I quickly recalculated and revised my bid and won the job. Well done nosy cab drivers."
Pupils at a school in Lancashire have sent a cuddly toy dog 24km into the atmosphere as part of a science project. Kids at Morecambe Bay Community Primary School attached Sam to a helium balloon, a GPS tracker and a camera and released him into the sky. He managed to reach space, with a maximum height of 15.5 miles above ground, before coming back to Earth. The school has found the GPS tracker and the balloon - but Sam is MIA.
News hot off ... the seat
David Field, of Rotorua, writes: "Like Ross, I have experienced great outback toilets and I recall the one at my brother's camp near the Harper-Avoca rivers confluence near Lake Coleridge in Canterbury. It was very cold there in winter so to improve the sitting experience on frosty mornings the locals would cover the wooden seat with a sheet of newspaper and set it alight to raise the surface temperature a bit. Of course one needed to ensure the "fire" was out first!"
Where are they now?
Julie wanted to know who the carved "Nicola 4 Glen" in the concrete in a section of Mt Albert Rd, Three Kings just opposite St Therese School. Roy responds: "I don't know Nicola or Glen, but I can help time-stamp their tag in the concrete. I attended Marcellin College throughout the late 1980s-early 1990s and used to ride my bike over the tag on the way to school. Nicola and Glen would both have to be in their early 40s by now - at least. And based on the tag's location, they probably attended Mt Roskill Grammar."
