It's not clear how her character will exit the show - or whether writers will leave an opening for a return.
Adams confirmed she had timed her Fight For Life performance to take place after final filming sessions for Shortland Street as producers did not want to take the chance she would pick up any injuries.
"I got a few bruises and marks on my arms during training and sparring sessions," Adams said. "Those are easy to hide from the cameras, so that was okay. Fortunately I got none on my face."
She is the latest in a line of former Shortland Street cast members to try to crack into Hollywood, following on from Fleur Saville, Shavaughn Ruakere and Kimberley Crossman.
Adams insists her immediate focus is squaring up to her friend Elder-Holmes in front of 5000 fans at the Claudelands Arena in Hamilton on Saturday.
"It has been 10 weeks of hard training and I have to stay sharp in the run-up to the event," she said. "However, the whole idea of throwing punches at one of my mates is a bit weird and it is something I am trying not to think about."
Last month Adams was voted the Sexiest Woman in Auckland by Metro magazine and she is an ambassador for Bond underwear.
Adams previously dated cricketer Tipene Friday and has been linked to Wallabies rugby star Israel Folau.
In an interview with the New Zealand Herald this month, she said: "I am single, I will tell you that. But I think boys are too intimidated to ask me out.
"I haven't been asked out on a date in so long. Guys wouldn't even try. Kiwi guys lack the confidence, I think."
Shortland Street would not be drawn on Adams' departure.
