KEY POINTS:
Transformers star Shia LaBeouf has had his drivers licence suspended for a year.
The actor has been banned from driving after failing to take a breathalyser test following his car crash in Hollywood, Los Angeles, last July.
The 22-year-old star - who badly injured his hand in the collision - was previously told there was insufficient evidence to charge him for driving under the influence of alcohol, despite showing "physical signs" of being drunk.
However, the California Department of Motor Vehicles now insists his refusal to a chemical test is cause to suspend the actor.
Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office has previously said they intended to file criminal charges against the other driver, who was said to have run a red light.
Shia's injury forced director Michael Bay to call for a script rewrite to include his damaged hand in the story for upcoming science fiction sequel Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
