Sharon Stone faces $1 billion lawsuit over 'karma' quip

is facing a

$1 billion lawsuit

from the victims of China's recent earthquake after she blamed the disaster on "karma".

Stone was stoned back in May for her

callous comments

at the

Cannes Film Festival

. She linked the death of nearly 70,000 victims of the disaster to China's treatment of Tibetans.

It was a gaffe that left her swimming without armbands in the brown stuff.

Stone has since apologised for her poorly chosen words, but now more than 1,000

Chinese earthquake victims

have demanded she put her money where her mouth is.

Shazza was

served with legal papers

this week which demanded that she cough up a whopping $1billion payout, and issue another apology.

New York lawyer Ming Hai has rounded up more than 1,000 survivors and victims' relatives to serve Stone with the legal documents.

"For the families who have lost their loved ones or lost limbs or suffered severe injuries, your ... statement and act has caused extreme emotional distress," Hai said.

Following her remark, officials in China have threatened to ban the release of Stone's films in the country.

Plus the kind folk at

have offered to scan her brain to find her heart (that's if she actually has one - she is Cruella De Stone, after all). But PETA has a slightly different agenda - they're sick of her wearing fur.

Listen, we all love a good joke, but this has gone beyond. The chick's apologised for her wrongdoing. Making her pay $1 billion in damages to quake victims is just ridicilous.

Honestly, what does a girl have to do to get her apology accepted these days?
