KEY POINTS:
Move over, younger generation. The middle-aged really do rock - when it comes to group sex, that is.
A Maori Television documentary, The Sex Life of Us, will show 15 per cent of those aged 45 to 54 have had group sex more than once, and up to 10 times.
The Sex Life of Us, presented by comedian Mike King and Stacey Morrison, bares all on the sexual preferences of the nation and looks at other matters going on between the sheets.
The show surveyed 1000 people, 400 of whom were Maori. The TNS-led research has a margin of error of 4.9 per cent.
While the figures don't quite match up with a claim by Clint Rickards' lawyer that "half the country is doing it", figures suggest that one in six Maori have had group sex more than once, compared with one in 10 non-Maori.
It also appears Maori have group sex on their minds more often, too, with 67 per cent saying they want to have a threesome compared with 49 per cent of non-Maori.
About 68 per cent of men want to have group sex in contrast to 36 per cent of women. However, the reality was quite different. Just one in three men have had group sex compared with one in five women.
Maori were also more adventuresome when it came to sex with the same gender. One in three said they had had intercourse with the same sex at least once compared with the nearly one in five non-Maori. Ten per cent of the Maori surveyed had had same-sex relations up to 10 times in contrast to the 5 per cent of non-Maori.
Nearly half (45 per cent) of the women surveyed said they had had abortions between the ages of 19 and 24.
Sex Therapy New Zealand director Robyn Salisbury, a documentary panel member, said she was happy for a forum where such issues could be discussed openly.
The Sex Life of Us screens on Maori Television on Wednesday at 8.30pm.
