TVNZ is breaking with convention, and for the first time will be screening a new international TV show entirely online, before releasing it on TV later in the year.
The Carrie Diaries is a show based on the 2010 book series by Candace Bushnell, the woman who brought us Sex and the City, and is intended as a prequel to the iconic late-90s show.
It takes us back to 1984, when Carrie Bradshaw was 16, and Big and Manolo Blahniks were yet to invade her life. Offered an internship in Manhattan, the ambitious stylish teen jumps at the opportunity to explore new boundaries, while still trying to hold on to her friends and family life at home. With Gossip Girl producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage driving the show, and former Sex and the City writer Amy B. Harris penning the adaptation, it has had plenty of attention stateside.
Fans will be able to check out the new show at tvnz.co.nz/ondemand, from 7pm on Monday, and a new episode will be uploaded every week, less than seven days after it screens in the US.
