KEY POINTS:
Champagne, topless men and a romantic comedy - women were in their element.
The New Zealand premiere of the Sex and the City movie played at SkyCity Cinemas in Newmarket last night.
Models paraded Sex and the City-inspired clothing on a catwalk, topless male models served nibbles and beverages and Shortland Street stars such as Fleur Saville (Libby Jefferies) and Bonnie Soper (Morgan Braithwaite) graced the pink carpet.
TV3 anchor and More FM morning news reader Hilary Barry gave a prize for the best-dressed female of the night.
Jenny Craig, clad in a pink scarf and a grey, silky, knee-length dress with pink flowers on it, won the bottle of bubbly and 12-month subscription to New Idea.
Ms Craig, 32, whose favourite label is UK designer Karen Millen, describes her fashion sense as like that of Charlotte from the movie. "I'm quite classic and also quite feminine."
She said she never missed an episode of Sex and the City when it was on TV.
The world premiere of the movie took place in London last month. Its three-day opening weekend grossed almost US$57 million ($72 million), making it the biggest opening ever for a romantic comedy and the best debut for an R-rated comedy.
It was also the biggest opening box office for a movie with a female lead cast.
Worldwide, the film has grossed more than US$100 million.
The movie is an adaptation of the HBO comedy series about four female friends living in New York City who often have frank discussions about romance and sexuality.
