KEY POINTS:
A second New Zealand film has been chosen to be shown at the Cannes film festival in France next month.
Peter Salmon's short film Fog will have its world premiere at the festival, in the 2007 International Critics' Week section.
Fog was the second New Zealand Film Commission (NZFC) short film to be selected for a premiere at Cannes this year, along with Mark Albiston's Run, which had been selected to compete in the film festival.
International Critics Week was an independent section held in parallel to the Cannes Film Festival which focused on discovering new talent.
NZFC short film sales and marketing manager Juliette Veber said they were "absolutely thrilled" to have another film selected, as Cannes was considered the most prestigious festival in the world.
"To have two local films premiere is fantastic recognition for our emerging filmmaking talent."
Thousands of new filmmakers around the world submit their works for selection, but fewer than 20 were chosen across these short film programmes, Ms Veber said.
Written by Nick Mayow, directed by Peter Salmon and produced by Rachel Gardner, Fog was about a teenage boy who dreamed of leaving the small fishing village where he lived but was prevented by his father's expectations.
Fog was shot on location in Ngawi, just south of Martinborough in Wairarapa.
