KEY POINTS:
Some 26 artists have been chosen from 107 submissions to be exhibited in Headland Sculpture on the Gulf, New Zealand's premier outdoor sculpture show.
The event is held every two years on Waiheke Island, with works installed over 2km of the Matiatia-Church Bay walkway.
Project director Dilys Grant said: "There are no limits to the creative responses the coastal landscape engenders. Some of the installations will shadow the landscape, float on the ocean, scale trees, crash land, and some will even ambush the unsuspecting on the walk itself."
The artists are Tony Bond, Paul Cullen, Charlotte Fisher, Meiling Lee, Kazu Nakagawa, Pauline Rhodes, Jeff Thomson, Leon van den Eijkel, Richard Wedekind, Graham Bennett, Lucy Bucknall, Gill Gatfield, Chris Hargreaves, Robert Jahnke, Gaye Jurisich, Nic Moon, Stephen Mulqueen, Christian Nicholson, Louise Palmer, Louise Purvis, Paul Radford, Brydee Rood, Graham Snowden, Serene Thain, Fletcher Vaughan and Graham Fletcher.
The three selectors were Christchurch Art Gallery director Jenny Harper, Helen Kedgley of the Pataka Museum and Art Gallery, Porirua, and Justin Paton from Christchurch Art Gallery.
* The show will run from January 23 to February 15.
