MUSIC

It's a busy week with slamming pop punks Paramore stepping up in venue size to Vector Arena tomorrow night on their second trip here this year; also on a return visit is the mass soul jazz funk collective Eru Dangerspiel, led by drummer and arranger Riki Gooch, at the Auckland Town Hall on Friday; and Gin Wigmore kicks off her Grave Train Tour at the Auckland Town Hall on Saturday.

And for those lucky enough to have tickets, get along to Metallica on Wednesday nice and early to check out the intense brawling sound of Baroness and the unhinged rage of Lamb of God as support acts. Read the interview with Metallica's drummer Lars Ulrich here.

MOVIES

Nutty comedy Dinner For Schmucks stars Flight of the Conchords' Jemaine Clement as artist Kieran Vollard who, as well as expressing himself through painting and photography, also likes to express himself through the art of love making. For more on the film, which also stars Steve Carell and Paul Rudd, and Clement's character's exploits read here.

Elsewhere at the movies, Ryan Reynolds stars in Buried about a truck driver and family man who wakes up six feet under with no idea who or why anyone would put him there; and local film The Insatiable Moon stars Sara Wiseman and Rawiri Paratene in a drama about the plight of a group of Ponsonby boarding house residents.

TV

There's a show you may, or may not, want to watch this week depending on how aware you are of Auckland sitting on a hotbed of magma. Eruption (Wednesday, 8.30pm, TV3) is a docu-drama about the evacuation of Auckland when a new volcano starts spewing the hot stuff.

I would rather fight the evil Wilberforces, who also live beneath Auckland, than have to run away from a lava flow so I'm sticking to watching WANNA-BEn (Friday, 10pm, TV3). The new show from Pulp Sport's Ben Boyce sees the likely lad head to the US looking for tips from celebrities on how to be everything from a pop star like the Hanson boys to an action movie star like Steven Seagal.

Take a nosey around Eden Park from 10am on Sunday to see how it's shaping up for the World Cup. Just don't pick the grass. It's gold coin entry, with all proceeds going to the Christchurch earthquake appeal, OpShop will be playing, and you'll even be able to get your forehead signed by some of New Zealand's top sportspeople.
