MUSIC
Among the many gigs this week, two are for a good cause. First up, Luger Boa's show at Juice Bar on Sunday at 8pm is raising money for one of their young fans who has a rare form of bone cancer. Meanwhile, you can get into Monday night's Post the Vote show for free - with the Earlybirds, The Mots, and the Situations - if you take a photo on your cellphone of you posting your vote in the Super City elections.
Also this weekend Peter Hook is in town with his band to play Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures (Powerstation, Saturday and Sunday), melodic and slamming American punks Against Me play the Kings Arms on Saturday, and be warned, Exodus (Friday, Kings Arms) is not a Bob Marley tribute band.
MOVIES
For a laugh, Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg star in comedy-drama The Other Guys, about a pair of mismatched cops who get a chance to shine on the mean streets of New York - although things don't quite go to plan.
And let's hope the local Next Top Model girls don't see documentary Picture Me: A Model's Diary, a behind-the-scenes look at the fashion world shot by model Sara Ziff and her film-maker boyfriend Ole Schell. I haven't seen it but some of the goings-on might wipe the smile off Dakota and Elza's pretty and ambitious faces.
TV
You've got to love Steve Buscemi. Whether he's playing Mr Pink in Reservoir Dogs or demented psychopath Garland Greene in the excellent Con-Air, he's always got a glint of menace in those funny eyes of his. And this week he gets the lead role of Enoch "Nucky" Thompson in new HBO series Boardwalk Empire (Sky Movies, 8.30pm, Saturday), about lawless times in Atlantic City during the prohibition era.
Also on the box this week is Married Single Other (TV One, 8.35pm, Friday), a kind of updated Cold Feet, and The Big C (TV3, 9.30pm, Tuesday) stars Laura Linney as Cathy Jamison, a school teacher who is diagnosed with cancer and sets about making a few life changes. Don't worry, she doesn't start selling P, she kicks her husband out of the house instead.
OR...
Leap and bound down to the Aotea Centre for Rise by Complexions ballet company who dance to everything from U2 to Rachmaninoff. This wiry bunch of contemporary dancers from New York will prove that it is possible to dance properly to U2 and not look like a dummy. It's on until Saturday.
