KEY POINTS:
We've all heard the woeful tale of Martin 'always the bridesmaid, never the bride' Scorsese, and his continual Oscar failure but what about the others?
A quick trawl back through Oscar history shows Scorsese isn't the only one of this year's nominees to face multiple Academy snubs.
Best Actor nominee Peter O'Toole quipped to People magazine this morning, "If you fail the first time, try try try try try try try again."'
The Venus actor has been nominated seven times, without ever claiming the golden statue, while actress Kate Winslet has made the list four times.
Winslet's Titanic co-star Leonardo DiCaprio will be celebrating his third Academy Award nomination, but has yet to take the winners podium.
Likewise, this year's frontrunner for Best Actress, Helen Mirren has had two prior shots at the prize without success.
Previous winners Meryl Streep and Judi Dench, who join Mirren in the Best Actress running, are proof that practice makes perfect.
This year marks Dench's sixth nomination, yet the actress has just one Oscar to her name. And it's a Supporting Actress gong at that.
Meanwhile, Streep takes top honour as Hollywood's most nominated actor in history, having made the list a massive 14 times since 1979.
Yet The Devil Wears Prada star still only has two statues on her mantelpiece.
It's a harsh world Marty, but at least you're not alone.
