KEY POINTS:
It's been more than three years since Savage's ass-shaking anthem Swing was riding high in the Kiwi charts, but the song has been given a new lease on life thanks to a hit comedy soundtrack and the internet, sparking a four-way bidding war between American record labels.
Depending on the emergent winner - due to be announced tomorrow - Savage could become a label mate of Lil Jon on TVT, Ray J on Koch Records, Akon on Konvict/Interscope or Amy Winehouse and Jack Johnson on Universal Republic.
Dawn Raid Entertainment released the 2005 album Moonshine on iTunes last month, after the song gained international attention when it featured in last year's hit comedy Knocked Up.
The single has already clocked up more than 50,000 download sales and reached No.15 on the iTunes Top 100.
But the real success of the song has been its bump and grind music video, which has become a YouTube favourite, spawning a series of imitations and parodies.
Swing originally debuted in January 2005 in New Zealand, where it spent five weeks at number one on the charts.
The Best Swingers ...
1. VINCE VAUGHAN
He was the original swinger, so it's not surprising some clever bugger with too much time on his or her hands rounded up a series of dancing Vaughan clips, from a selection of films, and edited them seamlessly together.
The video actually looks like Vaughan is moving like a gypsy.
2. ACOUSTIC SWING
Josh Baird takes the bass heavy hip-hop track and turns it into a lovely wee ditty, accompanied only by his acoustic guitar.
The verse "Let it rise then watch it dump, shaking your junk in the trunk," never sounded so wholesome.
3. CHIPMUNKS
Following their foray into punk rock, covering the All American Rejects' Swing Swing, the Chipmunks go ghetto, donning hoodies and shades in this remix. The visuals are lacking but the idea of Alvin, Simon and Theodore singing "Uh oh, lean back, girl you got some mean racks," is priceless.
4. FAT BOY
It's enough to put you off your dinner. Take one over-sized American, remove his shirt and watch as he gets down to Savage.
Repulsive, yes, yet strangely engaging. A bit like the Simpsons episode where Homer has a flab test and Dr Hibbert times it to see how long he keeps jiggling.
5. POOL GIRLS
Proving Savage could well be the next Soulja Boy, six teenage girls re-enact the Swing dance in their backyard.
It's a little hokey but you've got to give the white girls props for mastering the booty shake.
