Last month the British crooner was forced to cancel the remainder of his Australian tour when doctors discovered a small hemorrhage in his vocal cords.
"I have been vocally exhausted for a while now however last night in Sydney I had a small hemorrhage on my vocal chords," he told fans at the time.
"The doctors have told me I need to fully rest until my vocal chords have healed, otherwise this could become a huge long-term issue. I am so sorry to all who have bought tickets, I truly am."
But after resting for ten days with no improvement, he revealed to his dismayed followers he was undergoing surgery, adding that "I cannot wait to sing for you all soon".
As the date of his surgery approached, trepidation increased for the Like I Can hitmaker, until his last day with a fucntioning voice arrived, and he apologised in advance to anyone who might try to speak to him.
"Enjoying my last day of speaking," he wrote on Instagram. "After today no speaking for three weeks. So if you see me on the streets sorry if you think I'm a d**khead and can't say hello. Also gonna be silent for my birthday. Sounds fun aye?"
