Sam Hayes will replace Hilary Barry as the co-host of TV3's 6pm news show. MediaWorks' acting chief news officer Richard Sutherland last night confirmed the appointment to the Herald on Sunday.
The Herald reported this month that Hayes was the front-runner to join Mike McRoberts as co-host of TV3's flagship news programme after Barry's controversial departure.
Hayes, who had been fronting Newshub Late, said she was over the moon at her new role.
"Hilary is leaving big shoes to fill and I'm honoured to build on the trust she has helped create with Newshub," she said.
"I've been working with TV3 since I was 17 years old in many different roles, and now I'm looking forward to joining Mike and bringing New Zealanders the news each night."
